One More Tournament: SIKC Open Heads to Lake of Egypt November 7
The Southern Illinois Kayak Club isn’t quite ready to call it a year.
On Saturday, November 7, SIKC will host a one-day Open Tournament at Lake of Egypt, giving anglers one more opportunity to compete before winter. Unlike our regular-season events, the Lake of Egypt Open is open to both SIKC members and non-members.
Registration opens October 1 through TourneyX.
Event Schedule
Anglers may launch at 6:45 AM, with lines-in at 7:00 AM. The tournament will run for eight hours, with lines-out at 3:00 PM.
The entry fee is $60 per angler. Of that amount, $5 per angler goes toward Big Bass, $6.50 covers the TourneyX fee, and $176 from the overall event pot covers event insurance. The remaining tournament pot will be paid 50% to first place, 25% to second, 15% to third, and 5% each to fourth and fifth.
Big Bass will be paid separately.
Two Kistler Magnesium Reels Up for Grabs
The tournament payout won’t be the only opportunity to leave Lake of Egypt with something new.
Every registered angler who attends the official tournament checkout will be entered for a chance to win one of two Kistler Magnesium reels, each valued at approximately $150.
We will also raffle off a Bates GOAT SWM 200 reel worth almost $400. In total we will raffle off over $1000 of prizes!
You don’t have to finish in the money to win one — but you do have to attend checkout to be entered.
Open to Members and Non-Members
You do not need to be an SIKC member to compete in the Lake of Egypt Open.
Non-members are welcome, but all non-member anglers must complete the required SIKC liability waiver before participating in the event.
Anglers may use any legal Lake of Egypt launch. The Shawnee National Forest boat ramp provides a free launch option. Anglers choosing another marina or access point are responsible for any applicable launch, parking, or access fees.
Important Lake of Egypt Rules for All Anglers
Lake of Egypt is a private lake owned by Southern Illinois Power Cooperative, and recreational use of the lake and shoreline is subject to SIPC’s Official Lake of Egypt Rules and Regulations. SIPC also requires tournament directors to provide the applicable lake rules to all tournament participants.
All anglers competing in the SIKC Open need to be aware of the following Lake of Egypt rules contained in the tournament permit materials:
Tournaments are not permitted on Lake of Egypt from June 1 through September 30.
Do not cast lures within 10 feet of docks or boats.
Boats may not be anchored within 100 feet of the shoreline near a residence or boat dock.
Crappie are limited to 15 fish per person per day and must be at least 10 inches long.
Largemouth bass are limited to five fish per person per day: four fish from 12 to 16 inches and one fish greater than 16 inches.
Bluegill and redear sunfish are limited to 15 fish per person per day and must be at least 6 inches long.
All tournaments remain subject to SIPC Lake Rules, as well as requirements from Lake Patrol, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and other law enforcement agencies.
SIPC encourages anglers to minimize live-well use and utilize catch-measure-release whenever possible. SIKC’s tournament format is already entirely catch-photo-measure-release.
These Lake of Egypt requirements apply in addition to SIKC tournament rules and all applicable Illinois fishing regulations.
Please be respectful of homeowners, docks, other anglers, and everyone else using Lake of Egypt during the event.
One More Chance to Compete
There are no AOY points on the line and no season standings to protect. The Lake of Egypt Open is simply one more opportunity to get together, compete for a solid payout, chase Big Bass, and enjoy a late-season tournament with the SIKC community.
