Coffeen Lake – June 24, 2023
Our fourth stop of the 2023 Southern Illinois Kayak Club season at Coffeen Lake delivered an incredible day on the water. Warm weather, resilient competition, and impressive catches made this event one to remember.
Congratulations to tournament winner Jonathan Michael Kessler, who claimed his first victory of the 2023 season with a strong 94 inches of bass. Jonathan found consistent success fishing main-lake points, throwing a green pumpkin jig to seal the win.
Not far behind, Jake Schultz secured 2nd place with 85.50 inches, marking his second top-three finish of the season. Jake’s performance represents a major step forward in his push to qualify for the SIKC Crossroads Team. His 19-inch big bass proved to be the difference-maker, breaking a tie for second place. Excellent work, Jake!
Rounding out the top three, Kevin Cox also posted 85.50 inches, finding his fish less than 500 yards from the ramp. Kevin caught all of his bass using soft plastics along grass edges, proving that sometimes the closest water can be the most productive.
