Sangchris Lake – June 11, 2023
What an amazing day at Sangchris Lake for the third tournament of the 2023 Southern Illinois Kayak Club season! With perfect weather and fierce competition, anglers were treated to one of the most exciting events of the year.
First and foremost, a big shoutout to everyone who joined us on the water. Your enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and passion for kayak fishing made this tournament truly special. Sangchris Lake once again lived up to its reputation, as the top 16 anglers all broke the 80-inch mark, creating an incredibly competitive leaderboard.
After a strong day of fishing, Darren Hemker secured his second victory of the 2023 season, posting 89 inches while throwing topwater baits in just inches of water. With this win, Darren moved firmly into the driver’s seat for the 2023 Angler of the Year race.
Cody Wenger finished a close 2nd place with 88.50 inches, finding his fish on a worm. With another tournament on Sangchris coming up, Cody wisely kept a few secrets to himself—we wish him the best of luck in his next event!
Rounding out the top three, Glenn Banaszak landed 88.25 inches, making key culls on a senko and fishing hard right up until the final buzzer to earn his podium finish.
We’d also like to recognize every angler who didn’t make the top three but still gave it their all. Your dedication and love for the sport of kayak fishing do not go unnoticed.
