Little Grassy Lake – June 6, 2022
Tournament #3 of the 2022 Southern Illinois Kayak Club season at Little Grassy Lake is officially in the books, and it was an excellent day on the water. Anglers were greeted with beautiful conditions for the third stop of the season, and we’d like to thank everyone who made the trip out to compete.
Little Grassy Lake did its best to challenge the field, but our anglers rose to the occasion—catching over 100 bass throughout the day. Persistence and adaptability were the keys to success in this event.
Darren Hemker earned his second career SIKC victory, sealing the win with a last-minute cull that pushed him to the top of the leaderboard. Darren relied on his trusty finesse worm, which proved to be the perfect solution for the conditions.
Finishing in 2nd place, Dustin Siegel showcased his versatility by covering water and sight fishing for aggressive bass. This marks Dustin’s second top-three finish of the season, further proving why he finished 3rd in the 2021 Angler of the Year standings.
Rounding out the top three, Rece Schneider continued his impressive run with another strong finish. Rece has now placed top five in each of the last five tournaments, demonstrating remarkable consistency.
A big congratulations also goes out to Tony King, who landed the Big Bass of the Day with a 21.50-inch fish—an outstanding catch!
We’d like to sincerely thank all our members who made the drive to Little Grassy Lake. With gas prices at all-time highs, your commitment to traveling and supporting club events does not go unnoticed and is truly appreciated.
