Sangchris Lake – May 7, 2022
Our second tournament of the 2022 Southern Illinois Kayak Club season was a great one at Sangchris Lake. A huge thank-you goes out to all of our anglers who made it out and battled the conditions with us.
Anglers faced some tough winds throughout the day, but Sangchris Lake once again delivered. By the end of the tournament, anglers submitted 138 fish for a combined total of 1,829.25 inches of largemouth bass, making for a highly competitive event.
At the top of the leaderboard, Austin Weidhuner earned his first-ever SIKC victory, posting 89.50 inches. Austin found consistent success fishing Texas-rigged worms shallow along the bank, and we were thrilled to see him get his moment in front of the camera after sealing the win. Congratulations, Austin!
Finishing in 2nd place, Darren Hemker brought in 87.25 inches, marking his second consecutive runner-up finish to start the season. This strong performance moved Darren into the early lead for the 2022 Angler of the Year race.
Rounding out the top three, Dustin Siegel secured 3rd place with 85.50 inches, relying on his trusted mean green D-Bomb to put together a solid bag in tough conditions.
It was truly a great day on the water, and we want to thank everyone who came out and supported the event. We hope you had as much fun as we did and can’t wait to see everyone back on the water at the next stop of the season.
