Newton Lake – April 19, 2021

Our anglers absolutely brought the heat to kick off the 2021 Southern Illinois Kayak Club season at Newton Lake. It was an outstanding opening event, with over 50% of the field submitting limits over the 80-inch mark—an impressive showing to start the year. Great job to everyone who made it out on the water and put together strong bags.

At the top of the leaderboard, Mike Gragert secured the first victory of the 2021 season, posting an impressive 93 inches of bass. An excellent performance in a highly competitive opener—congratulations, Mike!

Finishing in 2nd place with 89.50 inches, Glenn Banaszak got his season off to a strong start as he began his pursuit of a third Angler of the Year title.

Rounding out the top three, Austin Weidhuner also brought in 89.50 inches, using his newly installed trolling motor to his advantage and securing a solid podium finish.

We want to sincerely thank all of our members who joined us at Newton Lake. The energy, support, and camaraderie you bring to each event are what make SIKC special. We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone at Tournament #2 at Kinkaid Lake on May 22, 2021.

As always, a huge thank-you goes out to our 2021 partners and sponsors. We truly couldn’t do this without your continued support.
