Prairie Lake – August 20, 2022
We wrapped up Tournament #6 of the 2022 Southern Illinois Kayak Club season on Saturday at Prairie Lake, and it was an event that will be remembered for years to come. Heading into the tournament, the weather forecast looked rough, but we were fortunate to be blessed with solid conditions for much of the day.
This truly turned into a tournament of inches. Plenty of fish were caught throughout the field, but quality bites were hard to come by, making every upgrade critical.
A big congratulations goes out to our top three finishers.
Michael Radake came out of the gate strong, landing several keeper fish early during a brief morning rain. Fishing a Texas-rigged worm, Michael grabbed the lead early and never looked back, earning his first SIKC victory with 67.50 inches. Congratulations, Michael!
Finishing just ½ inch back in 2nd place, Mike Gragert posted 67.25 inches, narrowly missing his second win of the season. This strong finish kept Mike firmly in the hunt for a Crossroads Team position.
Rounding out the top three, Joshua Lincoln brought in 66.00 inches for 3rd place. Like many anglers, Joshua found success on a wacky rig, but sealed his finish with a key kicker fish caught on a Strike King 5XD crankbait. This result also put him in a solid position to contend for a Crossroads Team spot.
